Looking Ahead to April

The 3rd quarter is nearly over.  That is so hard to believe.  Where did the time go?
I'll be sending home report cards Friday, March 23.  Friday is a regular school day.  We do not get out early for spring break.  Next week we have no school.  Classes resume Monday April 2, 2012.  I hope you all have a restful and safe break.

As a way to have a positive transition to 5th grade at the middle school, all 4th graders will be touring FMS is April.  4H goes on Tuesday, April 3 at 8:45.  The students get a tour of the building, meet the principal, and learn how to use the lockers.  The Guidance Counselors will be conducting the tours and will answer any questions the children may have.

4th graders in our district all get the chance to go to the swimming pool for P.E. in April.  This is a wonderful opportunity for our kids to be exposed to water safety and the indoor pool.  Christy Leazer conducts the classes with the help of Mr. Dunlap, our P.E. teacher.  Your child will need his/her suit beginning the first week after break.  Towels are provided.

Our next trip to the wetlands is Monday afternoon, April 16.

4H Visits the Wetlands!

4H Visits the Wetlands! on PhotoPeach

Congratulations, Maya!

Maya Gottshall was chosen as the student leader of the month for our 7 Habits program.  We had an assembly where one student from each grade was recognized.

Maya Gottshall is a very kind and caring person.  She is sensitive to those around her and wants to help if someone is hurt or sad.  If a friend gets hurt at recess or in P.E. she will offer to get an ice pack and stay with that person until everything is OK.  Maya has a positive attitude toward her classmates and always tries to get along with others.  When working in group situations, she will listen to ideas first before adding her own suggestions.  Maya is a great example of someone who "seeks first to understand, then to be understood."

Maya also won the VFW contest "I Love America"  for 4th graders.  She read her essay at the VFW Mar. 12, 2012 along with the other winners.  It was clear Maya loves her country and is thankful to be living in the USA.  Congratulations, Maya!

Count Down to the Wetlands

Our wetland trip is scheduled for March 13, 2012.  Therese came to our class and taught us how to use binoculars.  We learned how to focus them and care for them.  We are hoping to see plenty of wildlife when we visit.  As a reminder, your child will need rubber boots for this trip.  Also, we are going in the morning, so they also should bring a complete change of clothes, including undergarments.  In the past, I've had students accidentally fall in the water (it's not deep) and get completely soaked.  I would hate for your child to have to sit the rest of the day in wet clothes.  We look forward to this trip and are anxious to see interesting animals and plants in the wetlands.
