Parent Teacher Conferences

Last week we had student-led Parent/Teacher Conferences.  4th graders were able to share with families all we've been doing in our class.  They explained assignments, posters, and various other projects we've worked on this year.  Students actively shared with parents all about their learning and all that takes place in our classroom.  This was a very positive experience for everybody.  I particularly enjoyed visiting with my students and families together.  All my 4th graders were very proud of what has been accomplished and they enjoyed sharing these successes with their parents.

Safety Patrol Party

Friday, Feb. 17 we had a 4th grade Safety Patrol party!  We have 30 kids volunteering their time everyday to help our Washington students cross the streets safely.  Rain, snow, sleet, or shine, 4th graders are on the corners after school ensuring safe crossings.  (Mary Ellis also helps on the corner of "D" and Madison.)  The students wear special vests and hold up a small stop sign to signal motorists to wait for crossing children.  Being on our safety patrol team is a tremendous responsibility for our 4th graders.  They take this job seriously and do it daily without complaining.  Thanks to our 4th grade safety patrol team!

Valentine's Day

We will celebrate Valentine's Day February 14 around 2:45.  I sent home a class list with your child.  Your child is not required to bring in Valentines, but if he/she chooses to participate, please make sure everyone in the class is included.   If you would like to send treats, that is fine as well.  We have 24 students in our class.
Only about ten families have signed up for Parent/Teacher Conferences.  You can sign up online, or call the school (472 - 2110) to schedule an appointment.  The dates are Feb. 21 and 23 with no school on Friday,  Feb. 24.  I will be facilitating student led conferences.  Your child needs to attend with you.  I would also ask other school age children wait in the hall.  I look forward to meeting with each of you with your child.
Another reminder :  Your child will need some kind of rubber boots for our trip to the wetlands in March.  I'll be sending home another letter explaining the program.

Congratulations, Mira!

Recently our school had our 7 Habits Assembly for December/January.  We've been focusing on a different habit each month.  We have an assembly and honor a student from each class who demonstrates one of the 7 Habits.  This month we worked on "Think win, win," otherwise known as the golden rule.  Mira Pappin was the winner from 4H.  Each student was given a certificate.   Great job, Mira!
Mira Pappin is a fine role model for the “win - win” habit.  She comes to class with a smile and an excellent, positive attitude.  She consistently tries to help her classmates and encourages others to do their best.  She shows respect to all those around her.  Mira loves school and loves to learn.  She is a joy to have in class.
