Looking Ahead to May

May is just around the corner.  We have several field trips coming up.
  • May 1 we are rescheduled to visit the wetlands.  Your child will need  a change of clothes and their rubber boots.
  • May 18 all 4th graders will take a field trip to Old Threshers in Mt. Pleasant.  We leave here around 8:45 and return around 2:00.  Your child will need a sack lunch that day.
  • May 23 - 24 the whole school will go on a trip to Van Buren County.  Our class goes on the 23rd.  Your child will need a cold lunch that day.
  • Our wetland wrap up is May 24.  We go to Jefferson County Park, so no boots are necessary.
  • May 30 both 4th graders will walk to OB Nelson for our Assignment Journal reward.  Your child should be bring home the Assignment Journal each night to be signed by you.
May 31st is our final day of school.  We are dismissed early that day.  Buses will leave around 2:20, the walkers/car riders will be dismissed by 2:25 or so.

It's been a great year.  Thanks to all of you for your support and encouragement from home.  I've enjoyed each and every child this year.  You all have a great bunch of kids.  They are ready for 5th grade!

Planting Trees!

Aliant Energy and Trees Forever teamed together to sponsor a tree planting for Wsshington School.  Last week 4th graders help plant 6 trees, 3 honey locust trees and 3 lindin trees.  They are located at the south end of the building by the back parking lot.  4th graders helped dig, plant, and mulch the trees.  Avi Pogel was here to give directions on how to successfully plant the trees.

As part of the Dig In, Fairfield kick-off event for Fairfield's Hometown Rewards Program grant partnership with Alliant Energy, the City applied for another grant program that Alliant Energy runs with Trees Forever, called Branching Out. . The funding for our trees came from Alliant Energy with site planning and organizational support from Trees Forever.

Congratualtions, Alex!

Alex Hetland was chosen as our student of the month.  This past month we celebrated Habit 6, "Together is better."   The following information was written on the back of Alex's certificate:

Alex  receives the award for Habit 6 “Together is Better.”  Alex always cares about others and works hard in group situations.  He knows how to work well in a group and encourages each member.  Alex enjoys each task he is given and consistently does his best.  His smile and wonderful attitude contribute positively to every group project.  4H is a better place since Alex Hetland is in our class.

Looking Ahead to April

The 3rd quarter is nearly over.  That is so hard to believe.  Where did the time go?
I'll be sending home report cards Friday, March 23.  Friday is a regular school day.  We do not get out early for spring break.  Next week we have no school.  Classes resume Monday April 2, 2012.  I hope you all have a restful and safe break.

As a way to have a positive transition to 5th grade at the middle school, all 4th graders will be touring FMS is April.  4H goes on Tuesday, April 3 at 8:45.  The students get a tour of the building, meet the principal, and learn how to use the lockers.  The Guidance Counselors will be conducting the tours and will answer any questions the children may have.

4th graders in our district all get the chance to go to the swimming pool for P.E. in April.  This is a wonderful opportunity for our kids to be exposed to water safety and the indoor pool.  Christy Leazer conducts the classes with the help of Mr. Dunlap, our P.E. teacher.  Your child will need his/her suit beginning the first week after break.  Towels are provided.

Our next trip to the wetlands is Monday afternoon, April 16.
